İzzet Baysal Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital Doctors Op. Dr. Bekir Gulac and Dr. Çağlar Çetin who have made an explanation related to the method of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy and adventages and disadvantages of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy  answered questions about hysterectomy, removal of the uterus (uterus). They emphasized that the closed uterus removal surgery, namely "laparoscopic hysterectomy", is one of the most important points that have come to the fore in gynecological surgery recently.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HYSTERECTOMY?

Op. Dr. Bekir Gülaç, stating the reasons for the removal of the uterus, said; “Hysterectomy is the name of the surgery we give to the uterus removal surgery. We can perform uterine removal surgeries for many reasons.  We perform hysterectomy for the reasons of myoma (benign tumors that develop from the smooth muscle of the uterus) that we see most frequently in the society, tumors, abnormal bleedings, cases where we can not get a response to abnormal bleeding despite our medical treatment, sagging and cancer surgeries. We perform hysterectomy (uterus removal surgery), especially in cancer types such as cervical, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer”.

ONE OF THE MOST COMMON SURGERY

Expressing that uterus removal surgeries can be performed in 3 different ways, Gülaç said; “Abdominal Hysterectomy, which we call Abdominal Hysterectomy, which is the most frequently applied in hospitals, is the uterine removal surgery with an incision such as a cesarean section, another vaginal hysterectomy (removal of the uterus through the vagina) and Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, which has been increasingly performed in recent years and has increased in frequency in the world, is partially or completely mediated by the instrument called laparoscope. We continue to apply the surgery to be performed in our hospital. In addition, laparoscopic hysterectomy is one of the increasingly common methods”.

“WE IMPLEMENTED IT TO 25 PATIENTS IN 1.5 YEARS”

Bekir Gülaç underlined that the laparoscopic hysterectomy method is now frequently applied and they do not encounter any serious complications; “Apart from laparoscopic hysterectomy, other surgeries can be performed in our hospital for many years. But laparoscopic hysterectomy is a method that we have applied to approximately 25 patients in the last 1.5 years. The reason why we focus on this is that this surgery, which is called closed uterus removal surgery, is increasing gradually. It is an operation performed mostly in education and research hospitals and medical faculties in Turkey. We have started to use this method increasingly in our own state hospital and we continue to do so. We have not encountered any serious complications so far. The postoperative compliance of the patients is also quite good”.

“TRADITIONAL METHOD SURGERY IS IN THE THIRD PLAN”

Finally, “We want our patients to know that laparoscopic hysterectomy is performed more frequently in the world and in Turkey,” said Dr. Bekir Gulac; “The operations with abdominal incision, which we call the old traditional method, started to become a bit of a third plan. It is a method that we have been performing for the last 1.5 years, especially about laparoscopic hysterectomy. Our chief physician and our provincial health director have a great support in this regard, and we thank them”.
